I would like to have my monitor dimmed (i.e. have a black screen) after some time of inactivity but still functional so that its speakers are on and music can be played. Looking for a correct setting in GNOME 3, I found the following options. These settings almost give the result I want but the monitor is turn off so no music can be played. I use PC, not a laptop.

  • are you sure that the sound issue is related to the monitor?

  • When I turn off the monitor, the sound is also turned off.

  • that does not answer the question ..... when you turn off the monitor, the speakers get turned off ..,... that does not mean that the speakers get turned off when the screen dims ..... are you sure that the computer does not also shut down the sound card when the display blanks?

  • How do I check this?
