I'm trying to install nginx 1.8 on Centos 7. I tried the following steps:

  1. Install nginx repo from http://nginx.org/en/linux_packages.html

    wget http://nginx.org/packages/centos/7/noarch/RPMS/nginx-release-centos-7-0.el7.ngx.noarch.rpm
    rpm -ivh nginx-release-centos-7-0.el7.ngx.noarch.rpm

  2. Install Nginx

    yum install nginx

  3. Start Nginx:

    sudo systemctl start nginx

But nothing happens; nginx doesn't start. The exact same steps work on Centos 6 without a problem.

Here is the output of systemctl status nginx:

nginx.service - The nginx HTTP and reverse proxy server

  • There are a few things I'm not sure why they're included like restarting the ssh service, and this may not solve the problem, but it is actually a possible solution to the vague question in my opinion.
