Is `cat -vET` a deliberate design or happy coincidence?

According to the cat
manpage, to see the contents of a file in a human-readable way, the -A
switch is used, which is described as:
-A, --show-all
equivalent to -vET
I know that -v
, -E
, and -T
are separately-defined switches.
However...
Since the process of investigating a real-world cat would be taking it to the vet, and knowing that developers have a sense of humour about these things, is this a deliberate design by the developers (perhaps to help users remember the switches (possibly before the introduction of -A
)) or is it just a happy coincidence?
