I just recently noticed that I cannot connect to the internet using USB tethering on my Moto G6 phone. It just keeps attempting to connect, to no avail, when I plug my phone into my laptop and enable USB tethering on my phone (the rolling network icon on the panel just keeps rolling). WiFi hotspot connection works fine.

My OS is Linux Mint 19 (Xfce) and computer Dell Latitude 7490. I also tried USB tethering on a live USB Solus and Xubuntu. With Solus it worked fine and Xubuntu failing in a similar manner as Mint. On my desktop PC I have the same version of Mint installed and it works fine with USB tethering. I have yet to try to tether any other smartphone into my laptop, but I guess the problem arises from using Ubuntu based OS with my laptop.

I'm fairly sure I have tried USB tethering on my laptop before, and it worked. The only major change I have done since than, is upgrading BIOS to fix a keyboard related issue. I also tried reverting to an older state with Timeshift, to no avail. It's not a huge problem, as the WiFi works fine but it still bothers me. I don't have a clue if this could be fixed with something quick and easy. Or if I just have to wait, and see if an Ubuntu or Dell upgrade is released, fixing the issue.

Apparently entering developer mode on my phone fixes the problem. Still curious as to why it doesn't work in the normal mode.
