Recently I was asked to install the latest version of Ubuntu, which I proceeded to do. However, along the way it encountered problems with the software. So I am not sure whether the whole package has been installed properly. However, I now find that whenever I log in, I am logged out within a short time of around 20 seconds. Each time I log in, I am logged out with very little time to do anything. Someone has suggested it has something to do with X11, but I don't know what to do about it.

I was told to type in "sudo telinit 3" to switch to line mode, but all that happens is the screen changes to black with one stating "UB_root: clean, 759542/16023552 files, .... blocks". Then the cursor just hangs.
