I'm running an openvpn client and connecting to a commercial VPN provider (PIA). Every so often, that connection stops working. I can resolve the problem by manually restarting my client. However, I would like to automate this process. For testing, I need a way to simulate the VPN connection becoming non-functional while still connected. I can't find a way to do this.
For example, I cannot use a bad server address because then the connection never connects and therefore, it doesn't replicate my real-life problem. Similarly for other ideas I have had -- all simply result in a failure to connect. I need to make a VPN connection that connects but fails to carry any traffic.
