recover evolution email data after crash: how to?

I have a linux Mate 19 running. It crashed. I found & fixed a few bad blocks with fsck, rebooted, and (almost) everything came back OK. But Evolution didn't.

The calendar, contacts and other miscellaneous parts are working. But I can't read my mail. The email part of the app looks like it was just installed, that is no mail or mail accounts. I follow about 7 external email services, syncing mailboxes, and the mail goes as far back as 2005, some of which are from defunct accounts that can't be re-synced.

As far as I can tell, all of the raw data is intact. ~/.local/share/evolution, ~/.config/evolution, and ~/.cache/evolution are present, but invisible to evolution.

How do I get back in? Do I have to import all of the old data somehow, or is there some bit that needs flipping to get evolution to recognize the existing data?
