I am encountering a problem when i try to use different Alias name from its serving directory. For example: I have an Alias 'ABC' which points to a deployment directory named 'DEF'. It does not work, however if i point to another directory with same name (ABC) as Alias it works fine. How can i have a different alias name than its serving directory?
For some reasons it is not possible for us to have same name for alias and the serving directory therefore that is not an option.
Here is my entry in httpd virtual host:
Not Working:
Alias /ABC "/path/DEF"
<Directory /path/DEF>
Options FollowSymlinks
</Directory>
Working:
Alias /ABC "/path/ABC"
<Directory /path/ABC>
Options FollowSymlinks
</Directory>

Shouldn't the first example be<Directory /ABC>
? Because I assume you want to use your alias as path?

That is the question, how can i make it work with Alias name(ABC) different from the directory name (DEF).

Well yeah... but to do that you need to specify the alias as directory, not a path.

Documentation says: "Alias [URL-path] file-path|directory-path" So i need to specify path.

I'm talking about the <Directory> section, not the creation of the alias.
