After a CentOS 7 Minimal install, and a yum update, I analyzed the folders.

  • / and /usr/ and /usr/local/ all have:

    bin etc lib lib64 sbin

  • / and /usr/ both also have:

    tmp

  • /usr/ and /usr/local both also have:

    games include libexec share src

  • I've seen many other folders that also have in common:

    games lib var

With all that noted, does CentOS have a good reason for having these same folder names in different locations, rather than putting all content of a similar/same kind in 1, or less than the current quantity, of locations?
