I currently have a computer (HP Pavilion 10 TS Notebook PC - e010nr) that runs Linux Mint 19 (upgraded from 18.3) with the latest kernel version (4.15.0-30). I then tried to install the GNOME desktop environment with:

sudo apt install gnome

It finished, and I now have four new entries in the DE list: GNOME, GNOME Classic, GNOME on Xorg, and GNOME on Xorg (GNOME on Xorg is actually listed twice).

If I select GNOME, it instead selects the second GNOME on Xorg. When I sign in, my cursor disappears, I get a flashing underscore, and then I am sent back to the login screen. The same thing happens with the first GNOME on Xorg. However, I can still load GNOME Classic without errors.

I tried sudo apt install -f and nothing happened.

If it helps, this computer also runs the Cinnamon and XFCE4 DE's.

Is there some way I can make GNOME (not Classic) load?
