Backup from Linux to a cifs USB drive in a Netgear router

Clash Royale CLAN TAG#URR8PPP
I have a Netgear WNDR4500 (N900), with a USB drive from Sandisk formatted as cifs. I can map it as a drive from Windows, and it works fine. When I boot lubuntu 18.10, and try to mount it so I could use rsync to backup my Linux system to it, I get error messages. I tried (from the terminal):
sudo mount -t cifs -o sec=ntlm //192.168.0.1/USB-storage /mnt/Netgear
Then I was asked for the root password, and then got the error:
mount error(115): Operation now in progress
Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g. man mount.cifs)
What do I do?
