OS - Linux Mint 19 Kernel - 4.15.0-38-generic.



Update Manager shows one update available - google-chrome-stable. I click on option to "Install updates". File downloads OK, but installing software produces the following error:-



dpkg: error: parsing file '/var/lib/dpkg/status' near line 6876:
empty field name
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (2)
A package failed to install. Trying to recover:
