Possible nouveau error during boot-up into Fedora28 freezes system

I finally switched from using Windows 10 to Fedora 28. After getting over the struggle of setting everything up according to my needs and preferences, I have been joyfully using the system for a few hours including multiple reboots without changing anything. All of a sudden after a regular shutdown, however, I cannot boot into Fedora anymore and I have to use my live-USB to write these lines.
The boot process outputs the following lines before the system freezes (the boot process does not proceed, the cursor stops flashing and the system does not react to CTRL - ALT - DEL or any other input).
[ 2.312312] mmc: Unknown controller version (3). You may experience problems
[ 2.591235] nouveau 0000:01:00.0: bus: MMIO read of 00000000 FAULT at 022554
[ IBUS ]
[ 2.598599] nouveau 0000:01:00.0: bus: MMIO read of 00000000 FAULT at 10ac08
[ IBUS ]
[ 2.653033] nouveau 0000:01:00.0: DRM: Pointer to TMDS table invalid
[ 3.300559] sd 4:0:0:0: [sdb] No Caching mode page found
[ 3.300564] sd 4:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through
I have searched the web for help, and it seems that it might be a driver problem which I am highly uncomfortable tackling on my own, as I don't want to lose all my previous work setting up the system.
I tried out disabling the nouveau driver as suggested here which led to the system's boot process proceeding further without mention of nouveau but still froze at some point.
What bugs me the most is that everything was running smoothly without any sign of trouble and that I do no get any errors when booting into the live-USB, which leads me to suspect that my hardware is not the cause of the problem.
My system is a Lenovo Y700. I'm happy to provide any additional information.
Thank you.

These errors should not stop the video from coming up. I've seen them before myself. I do recommend you try the negativo17 NVIDIA driver package though.
