I have an Nvidia GTX 970 providing Nvidia HD audio and a Creative Soundblaster Z providing SB Recon 3D audio.

When I boot into Linux I have no sound until I go into sound settings and swap devices - as in if I shutdown one day using the Soundblaster card, when I next boot up I'll have to switch to the NVidia HD audio and vice versa. Both cards work without fault with the exception of this issue, and switching back to the 'not working' device doesn't fix the issue.

So it's basically like the audio devices take it in turns to be functional. And it seems to be time related rather than every boot up - if I restart the PC then whichever card was working before will be the same this time, but if I shut down and leave it for a while (overnight say) then they will need switching in order to work.

Any ideas on why this could be happening?
