I recently built my first FreeNas box, created a couple of volumes and datasets, and nfs and smb shares. I am struggling with the nfs shares.
I have 2 shares, one is a global share anyone on my network can use and permissions are set on the share (via Sharing -> NFS -> MapAll User = nobody, MapAll Group = nogroup). This works and I can edit/create/delete files and folders.
The other share I want to create for private access, ie. only I can access. I have the Mapall User = myusername, Mapall Group = myusergroup, I have matched the user id number from my computer to the freenas box, I have also set the volume permissions as myusername rwx, myusergroup rwx, other ---. Nothing I do aside from set the permissions to nobody/nogroup works. When the shares are mounted when I log in, there is nothing in my private share.
In my fstab I have tried both of these but with the same result - permission denied. I can remote into the freenas machine as my user and edit/delete inside the private volume but would rather access as normal, mounted and thru the UI.
attempted fstab on client:
my-NAS:/mnt/Data_Storage /media/Data_Storage nfs rw,hard,intr,noauto,user 0 0
my-NAS:/mnt/Data_Storage /media/Data_Storage nfs rw,hard,intr,auto 0 0
results of ls -l on freenas with notes added (-->)
drwxrwx--- 4 username username 4 Sep 29 22:11 a_private
--> cannot access/edit
--> mapall user = username, mapall group = username
drwxr-xrwx 11 root wheel 11 Oct 1 21:12 shared
--> can access/edit
--> mapall user = nobody, mapall group = nogroup
linux ubuntu nfs fstab
