I have a device on which several linux systems (puppy tahr, system rescue cd) fail to start from usb flash. I mean the boot works ok to some stage and then suddenly the screen goes blank and that's it - I cannot even say where it "crashes". Is there a generic way to debug the startup process? Like start start with init=/bin/sh (this I can do) and then start the booting from command line (I don't know how)?

Press <F2> as the system boots and you should get the output of the boot log
