          E: gcc-6-base: 1.0989:package is in a very bad inconsistent state; you should reinstall it before attempting configuration

          You must have to reinstall that package.
          Use code

          apt-cache search gcc

          then

          apt-get update

          apt-get install g++-(version) c++-(version)

          You can use any version(I recommend you 4+)
          If the repository was not found then use this and again try those codes listed above

          sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-toolchain-r/test

          Run these codes in your terminal

          sudo rm /var/lib/dpkg/info/mintinstall.postinst

          then
          sudo apt install -f
          and comment the output

                E: gcc-6-base: 1.0989:package is in a very bad inconsistent state; you should reinstall it before attempting configuration

                You must have to reinstall that package.
                Use code

                apt-cache search gcc

                then

                apt-get update

                apt-get install g++-(version) c++-(version)
