How can I boot to an SD card from a USB stick?

So I have an old laptop(Samsung NP300E5A) without an HDD but with an SD card slot, a 16GB SD-card, a spare 2GB USB stick, and a wish to keep using that laptop. I want to install Ubuntu or something onto that SD-card and use that as a single only primary partition with the laptop.

The problem is that it would ever only boot from the USB stick, as, I guess, BIOS doesn't support booting from an SD-card.

So, I'm wondering - is there a bootloader or something that I could use, to tell that laptop to boot to that USB stick, which would then force it to boot from SD card which would boot into Ubuntu and allow me to take the USB stick out until the next reboot? And, if so, how would I go around setting that up?
