I would like to paste an YYYYMMDDHHMMSS timestamp everywhere with a specified keyboard key or combination.

Here is a way to do so: http://www.arcadien.net/node/48

But this reserves the clipboard, and as far as I know, there is no worthy alternative for Linux for Ditto clipboard manager.

Is there a way to paste a timestamp immediately without interfering with the clipboard?
