I am running Linux mint currently. I have download some files and tried to open them. There is an issue where I cannot find a program to open them. It simply gives me the choice "other". I have no idea what to type into this, so I am currently stuck.

What should I do, to be able to view this file.

This is a borderline rant, not a question. Can you identify a problem to solve, with constraints that would make it answerable?

  • If you want help, then you will need to tell us the file type? Gnu/Linux does not do everything the same as Microsoft's Windows. There may be even a few things that Microsoft does better, but not everything that is different is worse. For now try to ask a question, and tell us the file-type. There may also be more general solutions. It may be that you don't have, installed a program that can deal with the file. There may be ways to discover what programs to install. If you take care to ask a good question, then people will care to answer. (I will try to rewrite question. You can correct me.)
