I am using amixer
command to get system audio volume. It is shown in the statusbar. For some reason when the X
starts there is small delay (2-5s) before amixer
return any output. Then it performs as expected. Currently I am using dwm
, but when I tested i3wm
there was no any delay at boot. pactl
works in the same manner.

I guess this happens when PulseAudio needs to be started, so you cannot avoid it.
