How can you start a desktop session on an xpra display directly without going through a display manager?

I am able to start an xpra session such as xpra start :100
followed by DISPLAY :100 firefox
, but I can't get a desktop session running.
When I try something like DISPLAY :100 startx
or DISPLAY :100 startkde
I get errors such as couldn't get a file descriptor referring to the console
and another such
startkde: Shutting down...
kdeinit5_wrapper: Warning: connect(/run/user/1000/kdeinit5__100) failed: : Connection refused
Error: Can not contact kdeinit5!
startkde: Done.
vfclists@pxl6 î° ~/tmp/xpra î° Qt: Session management error: Could not open network socket
kwin: unable to claim manager selection, another wm running? (try using --replace)
There seems two be a number issues here.
One of them is that startkde tries to use the existing display manager, but I prefer to get directly to the kdesktop itself without having to long to the display manager.
The other is that the session seems to require access to a tty which probably results in the ``couldn't get a file descriptor referring to the console` message.
The main thing is that I am not trying to use the physical devices, but in the manner of x2go
or vnc
where I use a virtual desktop.
If the failure comes from the desktop session trying to use physical resources how can the session be started to avoid that.
