error message while running software updater

I'm working on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. I ran software updater & got the below error.
As the error says "check your Internet connection" but net is active. I double-checked that by opening a browser page.
Why the error message coming although net is there?
I pressed the button OK & the below pop-up came.
Can I rely on this message which says that my system is up-to-date?
