I recently decided to change from Windows and try the Manjaro Linux distribution.
I DBANed my HD, burnt the ISO to a disk and booted it from my disk drive. It loaded the expected setup screen and I started the installation. Everything was green and OK.

The screen went black for a moment, then displayed nothing but a repeating pattern of coloured squares of pixels, see image below:

Repeating pattern of pixels

This flashes to black a few times and after a while, a cursor appears which moves with the mouse. However, it never changes from this screen.

What may have gone wrong? How can I fix this? I am new to Linux and not hugely tech savvy so any advice is appreciated.

  • Graphics Card - AMD Radeon HD 7870

  • Processor - Intel I5

  • Hardrive - Hitachi 1TB

  • 8GB RAM

Version: manjaro-kde-17.1.6-stable-x86_64
