I have an Ubuntu Server 16.04 machine with SAMBA server running on it. I try to upload a directory containing subdirectories and files in them, through the file manager of my OS (elementaryOS Loki in the past and Manjaro now) and everything runs smoothly. The upload is done.
This is an example directory structure:

directory/
+--sub-directory-1/
| +--file-1
+--sub-directory-2/
+--file-2

But when another user, using Windows 10 tries to upload the directory, the main directory is created but neither the sub-directories nor the sub-files are being created and uploaded - The server returns Permission denied message. The samba share is configured as follows:

[Media]
comment = Music, Videos and Pictures
path = /mnt/media
available = yes
browseable = yes
read only = no
public = yes
create mask = 0775
direcotory mask = 0775

The password protected sharing is turned off in SAMBA and it reads all the files as supposed to (without a credentials prompt). Also the directory /mnt/media's permissions are set to 777. What could cause the problem? Is it even in Ubuntu or in Windows 10 (no such problem with Windows 7 machines)?

  • What are the permissions of the created directory after it doesn't create the subdirectories and subfiles?
