Something happened to my laptop during an update it seems and I have been experiencing MANY issues with apt-get and dpkg trying to update packages due to unmet dependencies.

Everything I have found so far has not helped, but I have improved my situation slightly. I have tried dpkg --configure, apt-get --fix-broken-install, have tried very command recommended and then some.

I am about to reinstall but I recently got my desktop the way I want it and really don't want to lose the progress.

OS: Ubuntu 18.04LTS with Pop! GTK Theme

Computer: Asus G75VW with core i7 3430qm, and Nvidia Geforce Gtx 660M

$ dpkg --audit
The following packages have been unpacked but not yet configured.
They must be configured using dpkg --configure or the configure
menu option in dselect for them to work:
libnvidia-ifr1-396:amd64 NVIDIA OpenGL-based Inband Frame Readback runtime library
libnvidia-ifr1-396:i386 NVIDIA OpenGL-based Inband Frame Readback runtime library
nvidia-390 Transitional package for nvidia-driver-390
nvidia-driver-390 Transitional package for nvidia-driver-396
nvidia-driver-396 NVIDIA driver metapackage

The following packages have been triggered, but the trigger processing
has not yet been done. Trigger processing can be requested using
dselect or dpkg --configure --pending (or dpkg --triggers-only):
libc-bin GNU C Library: Binaries

The following packages are missing the list control file in the
database, they need to be reinstalled:
libnvidia-common-390 Transitional package for libnvidia-common-396
libnvidia-common-396 Shared files used by the NVIDIA libraries

The following packages are missing the md5sums control file in the
database, they need to be reinstalled:
libnvidia-common-390 Transitional package for libnvidia-common-396
libnvidia-common-396 Shared files used by the NVIDIA libraries
