I'm using i3-gaps and a problem that i have when watching videos is that the screen gets powered off after i set the time using DPMS on my shell rc. So, to solve the problem, i had the idea to make a menu in i3 with the options to set the DPMS and lockscreen (lightdm) using hotkeys. Here's how it was done:
#########################################################################
#Set screen (turn off) time and lightdm lock options
set $mode_screen_time SCREEN TIME - (1) 05m, (2) 10m, (3) 30m, (4) 1h, (5) 5h
mode "$mode_screen_time"
# Execute all the options
bindsym 1 exec --no-startup-id "source ~/_my-scripts/screen-time-i3/05m"
bindsym 1 exec --no-startup-id "source ~/_my-scripts/screen-time-i3/10m"
bindsym 1 exec --no-startup-id "source ~/_my-scripts/screen-time-i3/30m"
bindsym 1 exec --no-startup-id "source ~/_my-scripts/screen-time-i3/1h"
bindsym 1 exec --no-startup-id "source ~/_my-scripts/screen-time-i3/5h"
bindsym $mod+Shift+t mode "$mode_screen_time"
###########################################################################
So when i press $mod+shift+t it displays a message for me to choose from different screen times, and that sources a script that i've created setting the necessary configurations, it is something like this:
# Lock the screen with lightdm slick-greeter after 30 minutes of IDLE
xautolock -time 30 -locker 'dm-tool switch-to-greeter'
# Turn off the screen after 31 minutes of IDLE
xset dpms 1800 1860 1860
To check if that is working properly, rather than waiting 30 minutes or 5 hous in front of my laptop doing nothing, i'd like to check the DPMS value that was set. There is any command or a file to where it is written that i could read? That would be a lot easier, and faster.
Thanks in advance :)
