Able to locate root folder var/www/html/wp-content, but can't edit or view?

Objective: upload custom fonts onto wp site via SSH as root user.



I am attempting to upload custom fonts onto my site. I am attempting to add the font zip files to the wp-content/theme folder as a root user.



I found the file using



locate wp-content


This returned 100s of files (directories? not certain on the correct term, please bare with me).



There I saw var/www/html/wp-content/themes and used



sudo nano var/www/html/wp-content/themes


to add the zip files, but it was empty because this is apparently not a file, but a "directory", as the prompt said.



I then did the above except with "etc/var/www/..." and it "does not exist".



Okay, so how do I actually add content to this var/www/html... folder?
