Why does iotop not show some processes with high disk IO? And what tool will?

My disks are being read from at their maximum rates, but iotop shows nothing accessing the disks except a few blips here and there. I've tried iotop -o and -ao and barely anything is accessing disk.

If I run fatrace it changes insanely fast, and shows ps(8625) /etc/group and ps(8625) /etc/passwdand gvfs-udisks2-vo (2127) a ton. The ps(8625) process Id iterates with each refresh ie 8625 -> 8626 -> 8627 ...etc

nmon shows high usage:

What tool will show what process is using my disk? Why is iotop not showing the processes hammering the drives?

sda and sdb are two drives with RAID1 through Intel Rapid Storage Technology.
