i have a relatively fresh debian 9.5 no desktop with minimal xorg and openbox+tint2. i installed gpa (GnuPG Assistant) among a few other apps.

if it cannot find any, gpa asks to create a private key. after it gets a name, email, and whether to create a backup, it tries to generate to key. however, in case gpa launched by the tint2 launcher (ie. gpa's .desktop file that runs Exec=gksudo gpa), after like 15s it tells me that an unexpected timeout has happened and it does not generate any keys.

first i thought it is a bug, but then i realized, that if i launch gpa from the terminal, a window asking for a passphrase to protect the key is displayed at that point in the terminal, and if i give it a passhrase it generates the key.

i prefer to launch most apps including gpa by an application launcher, and that that prompt is displayed in the context of the gui, and i suspect it is the normal behavior, not what i experience, and that it is not specific to gpa.

any idea what is happening and how can i make my system do what i like it to do?
