Run kwallet-query without X server or screen

I am currently working to solve: Cannot access kwallet after upgrading Fedora 26 -> 28
I managed to install kwallet-query on a CentOS 7 virtual machine, with the hope that the version available there might be able to read my kwallet. However it turns out that kwallet-query needs a screen / a running X session to function. What is the recommended way to get around a situation like this? My next step will be to configure X enough so that I can run something like xterm and hopefully run kwallet-query, or failing that, trying to compile a specific version from source myself, but that could become complex due to the number of dependencies. One issue is that I do not have much more space on this VM. I may also simply build a new VM and build KDE in it, but this might be more involved than simply building it from source and running it in an environment that already has X running.
Any suggestions on how I can run this utility without a screen would be welcome.
