How to bind modifier keys to specific action?

I am using xbindkeys utility to manage my desktop shortcuts, and it seems there is no possibility to bind Super or Shift+Alt keys. The first one is not so important to me, but I use the latter combination to toggle keyboard layout. Recently I used this command:



setxkbmap -layout "us,ru" -option "grp:alt_shift_toggle"


but now it is impossible since I need to catch layout switching event to update my desktop status line.
