Can we update iproute2 package on RHEL

I am having iproute2-ss091226 version on RHEL 6.9.
I would like to update the iproute2 package.
Could any one let me know how to go about it.

update to RHEL7. or, try backporting random things from Fedora or elsewhere (this may break the system or block security updates or...)
