sudo yum -y --enablerepo=remi-php54 install php-xml php-soap php-xmlrpc php-mbstring php-json php-gd php-mcrypt

Why not just remove the php73 packages and install the php54 packages?

Before you begin, is this a VM or a physical machine? If it's the former, power it off and take a snapshot first. Afterwards, power it back on and useyum remove
instead ofyum downgrade
.

Might I also add that the php packages fromremi
begin withphp##
where##
corresponds with the version and the binaries will be located in/opt/remi/php##/root/usr/bin
. You'll need to prepend it to your path in order to use it and set the modules inhttpd
to use it.
