I desire to establish a LAMPS environment (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHPMyAdmin, Ssmtp), on a remote machine that could have either Arch Linux or Gentoo.

  • Orchestration, deployment and automatic upgrades are done with Ansible.

  • The remote machine will host two websites (likely Media-Wiki or Drupal).

  • Daily or weekly backups are done by the hosting provider's backup tool.

What fully rolling independent distribution (FRID) is more communally-supported and common to use for that purpose - Arch Linux, or Gentoo?

Totally opinionated, but as a long-term (>10 years) Gentoo user, I'd go with ArchLinux...

  • @frostschutz thank you. Crud they locked the question. Maybe given to that move you'd like to give a few more words on why you think Arch is better for that particular LAMPS setup? Maybe you also have a tip for me regarding establishing such environment on Arch (I didn't even found an Ansible galaxy-role for that)... Thanks anyway !
