I've recently installed Debian on my Laptop and for some reason, I never have audio until I type pulseaudio --start into a root terminal. I have tried to get PulseAudio to start at startup in order to get my sound, but I can't find clear instructions on how to do so. Am I going about this the wrong way? Is there another way of getting sound?

Unfortunately, I am running Debian and this problem has been present since I installed Debian about 2 days ago. I have since removed the PulseAudio package and (sort of) solved the problem using alsa and alsamixer as my audio source. I of course have no audio controls at the bottom of the screen like say in Windows. I've been a Windows user for a while now and I've been getting into linux for about a year now. This is the first time I've used linux and not have an audio control at the bottom right of the screen. I would just like the convenience of an audio control at the bottom of the screen.
