History

FK Berane is among the most successful football clubs from northern Montenegro.

Before World War II, Berane played friendly games against clubs from the northern region of Montenegro, but they played few seasons in the highest football competitions of Montenegro at that time. In 1948, FK Berane, under the name "Ika Ivangrad", made a historic debut in Montenegrin Republic League (Crnogorska republička liga – 3rd Yugoslav league). During the past decades, under the name FK Ivangrad (former name of Berane city), the club played in the Yugoslav Second League, too.

After Montenegrin independence, Berane made their historic debut in the First League in the 2006/07 season, but they were relegated in the Second League (2007/08). After one season in lower competition, the club was promoted to the First league, but, as in 2007, Berane were relegated.

In June 2012, after one other season in the First League and a play-off against FK Mornar, Berane was relegated in the Montenegrin Second League.

In June 2014, FK Berane returned to the Montenegrin First League.

Former names

FK Berane have had several names during their history.

In the era of SFR Yugoslavia, the club was named "Ika" and "Radnički". After that, it was named "Ivangrad". After the breakup of SFR Yugoslavia, the town and the football club too were renamed.
