Changing the dektop manager for one user through VNC

For one of the user, I want to set the default desktop manager to something other than Gnome which is the default one in Centos-7. The user connects through vncviewer.
I see a guide here, however, I don't know such modification applies for one user or the all users? Also, there is no .xinitrc in /home/user/
What should I do?
