I have recently upgraded from RHEL7.3 to RHEL7.4 and I no longer get a "File Operation" (file transfer) window when I copy from one nautilus window to anywhere else. I have installed a fresh copy of RHEL7.4 on other computers/VMs as well and they exhibit the same behavior.

I have tried Alt+Tab and Alt+~ to find a hidden window to no avail.

Here is a YouTube Video demonstrating this issue. In this video I begin the copy (using Ctrl+C/V behaves the same) of a ~20GB file and then open up various setting pages to show what settings I currently have. The terminal window at the bottom just shows the size of the file at the destination with a refresh of 1 second.

Additionally, I can delete the file as soon as it appears on the desktop (or wherever I copy to) without any complaint for several minutes (presumably when the transfer actually finishes). Here is a screenshot of the error I get after the wait:
Error message after deleting in progress destination file

For reference, here is the version of a few pieces of software that might be relevant:

  • GNOME nautilus 3.22.3

Thank you for your time, I'd be happy to provide more information if needed.

Edit: I posted this question to Reddit here as well.

  • have you tried via command line? do you get the same error with the cp command?

  • cp and rsync work as usual, and even with the GUI transfer the file gets there, I just have no idea when it finishes using the GUI.
