I've installed Debian on an old machine: pentium 4 3.2 Ghz, GeForce 5200.
I've not run into error during the installation.
The problem happens opening some programs like terminal and firefox (not with settings). Opening the Terminal screen starts flickering, the pointer is centered into the screen and auto logout happens.
Is it a video driver problem?
debian drivers logout

check /var/log/messages for any errors. your kernel may be panicking due to running out of physical RAM when you open FF. how much RAM do you have?
