How long will NetworkManager search for and reconnect to Wi-Fi networks?

I have a device that is using NetworkManager to connect to Wi-Fi networks. If my Wi-Fi network drops out (e.g. the router is unplugged and moved), will NetworkManager attempt reconnects indefinitely?
Similarly, if NetworkManager is running, is it constantly searching for Wi-Fi networks that it has previously connected to?
The underlying issue I’m understand is whether or not I can rely on NetworkManager to automatically recover from Wi-Fi outages (not internet outages!), or if I have to reinstate connection attempts at some point.
Please let me know what are information I can provide, especially if there are important config details.
