How to translate these ufw rules to iptables?

I want to secure my OpenVPN configuration by using a killswitch. I don't know much about networks and firewalls but I found this ufw config which works just fine.
ufw default deny outgoing
ufw default deny incoming
ufw allow out on tun0 from any to any
ufw allow in on tun0 from any to any
ufw allow out from any to 0.0.0.0 // VPN IP
Now I want to translate the ufw rules to iptables rules because I only want to allow incoming traffic from tun0 that has been initiated on my computer. (Should be more secure, right?)
My attempt to do this is the following:
iptables -A INPUT -i tun0 -m state --state ESTABLISHED,RELATED -j ACCEPT
iptables -A OUTPUT -o tun0 -j ACCEPT
iptables -A OUTPUT -d 0.0.0.0 -j ACCEPT // VPN IP to initiate the first connection
iptables -A OUTPUT -s 10.0.0.2 -d 10.0.0.1 -j ACCEPT // this is my localhost and local gateway
iptables -A INPUT -s 10.0.0.1 -d 10.0.0.2 -j ACCEPT
iptables -P FORWARD DROP
iptables -P INPUT DROP
iptables -P OUTPUT DROP
This configuration is not working. What am I doing wrong?
