I have windows 7, then I installed ubuntu 18.04 LTS, and have grub to choose my os I want.

When I'd boot my computer to an eSata, and then restart and choose windows 7 on my computer I had an error 0xc000000f Info: An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data

When I tried some command to fix it, I also lost grub, so now I couldn't connect neither to Windows 7 nor Ubuntu.

I know that my data are not lost yet, I tried unplug/plug the hard drive but nothing.

Check out Super Grub Disk. This will allow you to boot into any valid OS. Then you can boot into your linux and fix grub.

  • @jc__ I have a similar issue except: I installed Ubuntu on a dedicated drive, and left Windoze on its original drive. All was well until Windoze did an automatic update. I apparently lost Grub, I did lose the ability to boot into Ubuntu, but can still boot into Windoze.

@Seamus Its common for windows to 're-install' the boot loader overwriting grub. Basically a reinstall of grub will fix it. Boot into linux (via a live disk like Super Grub Disk) and 're-install' grub. There are many variables here that prevents a simple answer. MBR vs. GPT; BIOS vs. UEFI ...
