After update: boot loader cannot find devices anymore

After installing updates on my Arch Linux installation, the boot loader is unable to find the boot device anymore. It says something along the lines of "Waiting for /dev/disk/by-uuid/..." and ultimately fails and drops me into an emergency shell.

The disk works just fine and I can still dual-boot the Windows installation on it.
The Arch Linux ISO shows the same behaviour, but I was able to boot SystemRescueCD ISO into an emergency system. From there, I downgraded the kernel package and linux-firmware package - unfortunately to no avail.

All in all, my problem looks a lot like this question except that I already tried the proposed solution but without success.

  • Did you check if the UUID are still found as actually devices? Match the UUID stated in /etc/default/grub and/or /etc/fstab against the output of the command blkid.
