HP Envy x360 with AMD processors has a long list of issues with Linux support. I am trying to fix the one related to touchscreen. New kernel versions already include the patch provided on Bug 198715, so one thing less to do. The problem is that it does not fix the touchscreen issue on my laptop. It gives me the new Bug 201817:

[ 16.587361] irq 7: nobody cared (try booting with the "irqpoll" option)

Nobody cared? Poor guy you are IRQ 7... then make somebody care! I edit drivers/pinctrl/pinctrl-amd.c and force amd_gpio_irq_handler to always return IRQ_HANDLED (change line 595 return ret; by return IRQ_HANDLED;).

With this modification now I do not get any error related to IRQ 7 no touchscreen on system log and touchscreen works! Well ... that seems. Now system is sending interrupts at a very high rate, raising CPU temperature and perceptively slowing down the system (but still usable; nothing compared to enable irqpoll on boot command line as error message suggests).

I have zero experience of kernel programming, so I have no idea of what I am doing. I do not know what are the consequences of this change nor how to stop IRQ 7 generation.

Any idea what may be happening?

System specs:

  • HP Envy x360 13-ag0002ns (Ryzen 2500U)

  • Ubuntu desktop 18.10

  • Linux kernel 4.19.9
