ZFS on mdadm: Implications?

I am considering setting up a RAID array with mdadm/Linux RAID, and using the ZFS filesystem on the resulting device (ie. /dev/md0). Many would suggest using ZFS to create the RAID array directly, however ZFS currently lacks the ability to expand an existing array (but apparently in the works!), whereas mdadm/Linux RAID does have the ability to do such. Would this setup work? Aside from not being able to use ZFS RAID, are there any other ZFS features that I would lose?
