I just bought a new Anker Soundcore2 speaker. As this is one of the most popular bluetooth speakers out there, I thougth it'd just work out of the box. It connects perfectly to my Android Phone, but it's a nightmare with my Fedora 25 Linux. The bluetooth manager sees the speaker as a bluetooth device, but I cannot use it to play sound.

I have installed pavucontrol and blueman. When I do the bluetooth setup from there, the device shows up but i get "failed to add device" when I try to pair. If I say "proceed without pairing", i get a reply of "device successfully added" but it still does not show in my audio devices.
When I start the blueman-manager from console, it prints

org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.

when the error is encountered.

I have also made a couple of attempts using the bluetoothctl client, but no success either. When I type devices the speaker is listed, but any attempt to pair or connect does not return a reply.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm on Linux Fedora 25

Could selinux be a problem here?

  • I was hoping for an answer here too. I have the same speaker, and I have the problem of it asking for a pin, and I can't find anything indicating any kind of pin.

  • @supercheetah I just ended up using a cable for my laptop :/ seems that the speaker is designed primarily for Android and iOS mobile devices. Maybe there is a solution, but I haven't found it yet.

  • Yup, that's what I do too. By the way, I use Ubuntu, which uses AppArmor instead of SELinux, so I don't think that's the problem, although they're similar, so I can't completely rule them out. I'm just sad that I can't carry the speaker around with me when I'm listening to stuff from my computer.
