On server A, I am downloading 500GB file from AWS bucket using axel -n 10 $file into a curlftpfs-mounted folder. This folder is FTP share on a second server (B), I can see all files correctly from server A.

axel shows download speed of ~10MB/s however, on server (B) all network interfaces are below 1MB/s. Also, the file size on server B doesn't change.

When I do wget $file everything works correctly: file downloads (albeit slower) and file size changes.

A and B are in the same rack, connected via switch.

My top doesn't show dramatic change in RAM. So where is the data go from axel?

I cannot download file directly to server A because it has only 100GB SSD drive. I cannot download file directly on to server B because it has no axel utility (FreeBSD)
