I have a problem with both my control keys. I decided to make a linux machine. I have previously a dual boot with Linux Mint and Windows 10, now I have only Kali. The thing is, the control keys (both left and right) worked just fine but now they seem to not be detected at all. I have tried almost every solution online, and the problem for me seems to be that the keys are not detected at all.

I used xev but without any luck, they just do not have a code associated.

I've also tried running Manjaro, Linux Mint (again), Lubuntu and none of them have the keys working. It almost seems to be a hardware problem, but I think it is rather strange to affect both control keys at the same time, in the exact moment I install Linux.

[edit #1] I'm not able to remap any other key to the control keys, could this be a kernel error?

  • Provide error messages, do not say "it didn't work".

  • It doesn't produce any output. Furthermore, whenever i try to run xev and then press any of the control keys it seems to not be recognized. Every single key and touchpad button works, except for the control ones.

  • do they function in the virtual console or are they broken there too? (you probably need to use sudo chvt 3 to switch, but try Ctrl+Alt+F3 first.)
