After buying an ultrabook, i switched to Linux but apparently i face an issue when the touchpad driver seems to be missing, and only available on windows. After long hours of searching i found some leads but its a dead end.

I have a Synaptics Forcepad touchpad with an I2C MCHP85D9 Microchip that is being detected as a PS/2 mouse. It doesn't have drivers for linux as its closed-source. Basic features work, but still quite annoying and practically renders the touchpad almost useless. The root cause is not the Synaptics drivers but a lack of drivers for the I2C controller used by HP.

The thread with the most information so far:
https://www.bountysource.com/issues/35066387-synaptics-forcepad-working-as-generic-ps2-mouse-hp-folio-1020

One guy from the thread tried to make things happen with not so much luck:
https://github.com/doa379/mchpemi

Is there any hope for this to be supported in the future? AFAIK there is I2C support in >=4.4 Kernels but it doesn't work. Is it the concept thats wrong? Or just some issues with identification of the touchpad?

I tried many options, even fiddling with synaptics driver. synclient returns an error that the driver cant be loaded.

Thank you for your time.
